salisbury

on tuesday i took an extra day off to go to salisbury with my mum and my nan. i couldn't have picked a worse day, weather wise, if i tried. see how black the sky is in the top picture? however my mum and i getting the same day off is pretty rare, and i wanted to go to lunch with her since she got back from her holiday, so on the train we went.

we took my nan around salisbury, and showed her the cathedral which is seriously beautiful. i love how serene the atmosphere is in holy places, and this one sure is the same. last time we went there were lots of people sat eating picnics on the grounds outside, but tuesday it was a lot of people in coats, with umbrella's blowing inside out. another beautiful english summer's day.

we had a bit of a girly afternoon, shopping and walking around and just enjoying a day out of our usual routine. i was excited to get the perfect diary for next year, teal/ blue leather with 2012 engraved into the front. paperchase, of course. my mum was excited to find a pair of shoes she's been looking at forever on sale.

we took my nan to this creepy old pub called the haunch of venison. the building is around 700 years old. when my parents first went there a couple of years ago for a friend's birthday the pub had this hand in a glass case showcased on the bar. the story behind it, is it was found during building work on the pub many years ago, and that the hand had been chopped off during a game of poker as the person playing had been cheating. now hidden in a wall we decided to take my nan there to show her this and tell her the story. however when she bent over to have a look, i couldn't help but make her jump!

eventually we settled down for some lunch, mum and i shared a fajita plate. it was delicious, and after all that food, and all that walking; we stayed there until the train came...

That sounds like such a lovely time! :) I'm glad you had a nice day. That cathedral looks absolutely gorgeous. I'd love to see it some day.
